"Reading While Black" - Book Review
Friday Sep 18, 2020
Friday Sep 18, 2020
This week, Richard, Hakeem and Ryan discuss a new and timely book, “Reading While Black: African American Biblical Interpretation as an Exercise in Hope,” by Dr. Esau McCaulley. We take time to discuss a little bit of how we came to know about Dr. McCaulley and his work, why it has us so excited, and some of our favorite parts of each chapter. McCaulley’s book has a vital message about the importance of being honest about interpreting the Bible from our own social and cultural location and how the Bible has something to say about our own cultural moment when we ask the right questions.
Esau McCaulley also hosts “The Disrupters Podcast” where he interviews other Christian authors such as, Jemar Tisby, N.T. Wright, Sho Barka and others. You can find that here.
